Tell us a little about yourself

I am a 47 year old mom of two amazing young adults ages 20 & 21! I have been a Labor & Delivery / Maternal Child Registered Nurse for 23 years now. I love helping women through their birth experiences and teaching them how to be successful with breastfeeding! At home I enjoy quilting, gardening, and spending oodles of time with my super supportive husband Nick and our three Great Danes! Together we love to camp in the mountains, walk/hike and play chess, and quiet morning coffee out in our yard with "the girls."

How long have you been wearing wigs or hairpieces?

I have now been wearing wigs for four years. I never had "great" hair, it was very fine and not tons of it. All my great aunts and both Grandmothers wore wigs and I figured it was in my future from pretty early on. My hair loss took a big hit with having my kids in my mid 20's. I had the typical hair loss at about the 3 month mark post partum but never regained what I lost. About when I turned 40 the top was becoming quite thin. At that time I started trying every shampoo/treatment known to woman, every laser gadget out there and even had a hair transplant surgery! The surgery bought me about two good years but then I could tell that genetics just keeps rolling on and there wasn't anything more for me to do. So along with the support of my husband and kids I bought my first wig.

What advice would you give to a new alternative hair wearer?

My advice to new wig wearers include a few points: Bring a trusted friend/spouse to a wig shop that is supportive and not pushy. Try on as many wigs as you can, even if you don't like how they look on the shelf. Take pictures in them and don't feel pressured to buy something just because others tell you to. Go for something that is MOST like what your hair was when it was it's BEST or just what makes you feel most like yourself! Wearing wigs successfully means that you have the confidence from the inside that bubbles out! You won't start that way but begin with wearing it around the house and getting comfortable seeing your new self in the mirror! Then venture out on short outings and enjoy a full head of gorgeous hair! The one thing that is of most concern is wondering if others can tell you are wearing a wig. I promise you that nobody else is walking around looking for others wearing a wig..... And with the incredible technology of today's lace front wigs and super real fibers we can fool just about anyone!

What do you love about our brand?

I love that Jon Renau has such a large selection of wigs and tons of color options. Their price points cover all ranges and the fibers themselves are extremely lifelike. I've had people tell me at work that have known me for three years of wig wearing that they had NO CLUE I wore wigs! That's pretty amazing to me :)
