Real Women, Real Stories: VANESSA

This month we asked our client Vanessa to share her story with us.
Tell us a little about yourself
My name is Vanessa and 18 months ago I was diagnosed with Alopecia Universalis. Following the devastation of losing all my hair including my eyebrows and lashes, I then developed Atopic Eczema over 90% of my body. These were hugely dark and life altering times for me and at my lowest points I felt it was very hard for me to live. A woman's hair is something that is an enormous part of her beauty, character, identity, femininity and essential for some camouflage. When my beautiful long, thick, shiny hair was taken away from me I felt helpless, scared, alone and angry. At the age of 21 I lost my Mum to cancer she battled for over 4 years. Through those 4 years she never once complained, always concerned about others and never stopped smiling. When I thought about my Mum and how brave she was i knew I had to get out of the dark place I was in. So I started researching about wigs and help and support that was available where I lived. I found there was nothing. This then became my focus, my reason to keep going, my goal to help people like me.
7 months ago I created my own company here in England called Glamorous Butterfly and I have never looked back since!
What do you love about our brand?
I have been wearing wigs from the day I lost all my hair. Some have been good some have been not so good. It's all trial and error when you are a wig wearer and this is why I want to pass my knowledge onto my clients. I was first introduced to Jon Renau wigs about 5 months ago by the lovely Melissa (International Account Manager at Jon Renau). Once I received the wigs I knew straight away that they were the wigs I wanted to wear and I wanted my clients to wear as well.
Jon Renau is just a fabulous all round company. Its staff is amazing and is always on hand to give me help and advice even though I am based in England, UK. Their SmartLace Collection is amazing and I just absolutely love how natural the Chocolate Collection looks. The bamboo soft caps are my favorite along with the human hair care range.
What advice would you give to a new wig or hairpiece wearer?
Wearing a wig for the first time can be a really daunting experience and can be very overwhelming for some. On the flip side it can also be the happiest day of someone's life. My advice would be to go to fully private salon and within the UK a salon that has been trained by mynewhair.org or has an extensive knowledge about wearing wigs and hair pieces. Always know that there are a huge array of wonderful wigs out there and as long as they are fitted and cut correctly you can look better than you have ever looked!
