How long have you been in the alternative hair business?

Back to You was founded to provide beauty experiences, through trained hairstylists, to those suffering with medically related hair loss. One of the founders of Back To You, Harry D. Wood IV, has been in the hair industry as a leading stylist, author of continuing education books and coach for Aveda and Estee Lauder North America for 28 years and in the alternative hair business for the last 14 years. Our network of salons, hairstylists and educators have many years of experience in working with alternative hair.

What inspired you to work in this business?

All of our founders, and many of our stylists, have been impacted by medically related hair loss, whether personally, through a family member or close friend, or through longtime clients. We were inspired by our collective experiences to find a better alternative for the people in our lives and the people in the communities where we live and work. Our Mission at Back To You is to ease our client's suffering from medically related hair loss by providing alternative hair solutions in a salon environment. We train and certify the best stylists in the country to listen, understand, and use their expertise to meet our client’s needs, wants, and lifestyle.

What is special or unique about the Back to You experience?

Every Back to You client is a person, not a patient. A person’s world can be totally changed by losing their hair due to a medical condition. The Back To You experience is unique because it allows our guests tostep outside of their medical treatment for a salon beauty experience and for professional guidance in alternative hair. We understand what they are going through and stand ready to serve them, their friends, family, and our community. Our certified licensed professional hairdressers are trained to ease the transition before, during and after hair loss, so the person never misses a beat.

What advice would you give someone looking to purchase a wig or topper for the first time?

Back to You focuses on clients who are about to experience hair loss for the first time due to a medical condition. We make the process easier. What is your favorite Jon Renau piece?

We have a hard time just choosing one piece. We love the Easipart XL French Drawn and the Top Form French Drawn toppers. Our favorite wigs are Blake in Renau Exclusive color 12FS8 and Margot in the Renau Exclusive color 6RN.

You are CORE certified; what would you say to someone who has not yet attended?

We would tell a person who has not attended the CORE Education yet that the Jon Renau educators are extremely knowledgeable. Whatever you think you know about wigs and alternative hair,you will leave CORE knowing a lot more. They will always exceed your expectations.

What changes have you seen in our industry in the past 5 years?

The number of clients with medically related hair loss continues to grow. With social media, they are more educated regarding the trends and more comfortable with wearing alternative hair. Back To You is committed to expanding our Certified stylist’s knowledge to raise the bar for the industry.

How do you see our industry evolving in the next 5 years?

We see more salons joining our team and our cause. Our team of educatorsbelieve they are not teaching a class, they are creating a movement - the #B2Ymovement. We love our industry and believe in providing the best salon experience for the guests with alternative hair needs.

What do you believe is one of your success factors?

What makes us successful is our incredible Back to You team. We work with dedicated professionals and our educators are the best in the industry. We are bridging the gap between beauty and medicine. Everyone at Back To You is committed to making sure that the guest experience is second to none.
