For four decades, Jon Renau has been a leader in the alternative hair industry, but our story begins long before that. Our founder, John Reynolds, often gets asked how he transitioned from a career in pharmacy to the wig business. The answer is simple: both professions share a common goal—caring for people. Whether it was through medicine or wigs, he was always dedicated to helping others feel their best.
The journey began in 1968 in Cape Town, South Africa, when an opportunity to sell human hair wiglets sparked a new passion. With the support of his wife, Stella, the business quickly grew, empowering women and changing lives. By 1970, wigs were in high demand, and a vast network of sellers helped expand the business across multiple cities.
A visit to the U.S. in 1972 revealed the immense potential of the American wig market. Inspired, the family made a bold move to the U.S. in 1982, embracing the challenge of starting over. It was a leap of faith—navigating a new culture, re-establishing relationships, and building a business from the ground up. But perseverance and an unwavering belief in the mission propelled them forward. In 1985, Jon Renau was born in a small Los Angeles, California warehouse with just 12 styles. Through resilience and dedication, the company steadily gained trust and grew, moving to San Diego in 1989 and expanding its team and collection.

Paul owns easiHair Pro, a successful hair extensions business; Garron runs Fascinations, bringing innovation to the wig and hairpiece industry in South Africa; and Sam has become a valued advisor to Jon Renau’s Human Resources division. Today, Jon Renau operates from a 38,000-square-foot facility in Carlsbad, California, employing a dedicated team committed to excellence.
