Alopecia Awareness Month x Gaby

Sep 1st 2026

Alopecia can change more than your hair. It can change the way you see yourself, the choices you make, and ultimately, the way you define confidence. This Alopecia Awareness Month, we’re sharing one woman’s story of navigating total hair loss at age 25 and finding her own way forward.

Hear Gaby's Story...

Gaby grew up with a full head of hair and never expected she would experience hair loss. At age nine, she developed alopecia areata, small little patches that were noticed by her hairdresser. Gaby had never heard of alopecia before and was understandably frightened by what was happening.

She began receiving injections from a dermatologist, which helped manage her hair loss for many years. At 25, however, the treatment stopped working. Losing her hair again at an older age came as a complete shock, and adjusting to life without hair as a hairdresser was especially difficult.

Eventually, her hair began to grow back on the top half of her head and she felt hopeful. Six months later, she experienced hair loss once more. She then decided to embrace wigs and alternative hair, approaching them with a sense of play and possibility. As she puts it, if you can get extensions, I can wear a wig.

Gabby is now 34 with two little ones and rocks her favorite Jon Renau pieces, Haute, Aria,  and Maeve.
