Caring for Curly Hair
Feb 28th 2024
Stunning spirals, enviable volume, eye-catching bounce—the reasons to opt for a curly hair style are clear. But when it comes to styling synthetic curls, care techniques may not be as obvious. That’s why we’re sharing our styling tips for synthetic curly wigs, plus some additional products you could be incorporating into your curl care routines.
Jon Renau offers a range of curls, from tight ringlet curls to loose romantic waves.

Minimal day-to-day maintenance is required for all synthetic wig styles, not just our curly pieces. To keep your curls looking polished, simply detangle using a wide tooth comb and a few spritzes of our HD Smooth Detangler Spray. A wide tooth comb (never a brush) is the best way to prevent damage and preserve your piece’s curl pattern.

Every 6 to 8 wears, we recommend following this curly synthetic wig care routine to revive your ringlets.
- Shampoo: Under cool running water, gently lather your wig with a shampoo that’s free of sulfates, parabens, and sodium chloride. Jon Renau Fiber Love Shampoo is formulated to preserve and restore salon body to synthetic wig styles. After shampooing, rinse your piece thoroughly.
- Condition: Spray 3-5 pumps of Fiber Love Conditioning Spray onto your wet, freshly washed piece. Make sure to spray away from your wig’s base to prevent shedding, as sprays and detanglers can cause knots to loosen
- Detangle: Starting at the ends and working toward the top of your piece, use a wide tooth comb to gently detangle the strands.
- Define Curls: Place your piece on a plastic or wire wig stand, and then use your fingers to delicately twist and reshape the curls.
- Air Dry: Excessive heat can damage synthetic fibers, so never use a blow dryer or curling iron to style your piece. We recommend letting it air dry for at least 5-6 hours.

- Maintain: Restore a healthy, luminous shine to your synthetic wigs and toppers with Jon Renau's Fiber Love Wig Lusterizer. This sulfate, paraben, and sodium chloride-free protective revitalizing spray is specially designed to add shine back to your synthetic fibers. Spray 3 to 5 pumps into the palm of your hand and gently reshape curls.
- Voluminize: Add our Pick Me Up dry shampoo to your synthetic wig routine to minimize shine for the most natural look with your synthetic hairpiece. This dry shampoo provides a quick lift and volume boost at the roots for effortlessly refreshed and revitalized look. Hold 6-8" away from hair and spray your desired amount. Let it sit on the piece for 1 minute before combing it out with your wide tooth comb.
- Sculpt Curls: We recommend using a wig styling paste for adding texture, sculpting, and volume to your look. Jon Renau’s Piece Out Contour Fiber Creme can help sleek down fiber, add texture, and hold your style, without weighing hair down. Plus, it smells divine! Dispense a dime-sized amount of product into your hand and ensure even distribution.
- Lock in Style: If you’re styling your synthetic hairpiece in braids or an updo, we recommend using a styling gel. Jon Renau’s lightweight spray gel provides a medium style hold and brushes out completely, leaving no residue or build-up behind. We recommend spraying gel into your hand then working it through the hair fiber for even distribution. Gently comb though using your wide tooth comb and let air dry.
PRO TIP: To prevent curls from falling as they air dry, wrap the hair net that came with your style around your wig!
