Real Women, Real Stories: Lauren

THIS MONTH WE ASKED LAUREN, OUR END WEARER - TO SHARE HER STORY WITH US.
Tell us a little about yourself
I'd been experiencing hair loss long before I officially knew what was happening, but I just attributed it to having "bad" hair - my hair had always been thin and limp. One day I realized I had a ton of scalp showing, but I brushed it off, parted my hair deeper to the side, and tried to forget about it.
When I became pregnant with my first child, my changing hormones caused my hair to fall out by the handful, and there was no ignoring my hair loss any longer. When I experienced post-partum shedding after that pregnancy (what could I possibly lose? I already lost so much while pregnant!), my decision that I needed to do something about my hair was confirmed.
It was then that I slowly starting researching "helper hair" alternatives.
I spent a lot of time researching hair options, and when I became pregnant again, I knew that I would exit the hospital after delivery with my brand-new baby in my arms...and brand-new hair on my head.
So I did. And I've never looked back.
Life's busy: I've got two young boys, I work full-time in corporate retail, and I spend time writing on my hair loss blog Corner of Hope & Mane...I have no time to worry about my hair.
And with the magic of my toppers, I don't need to.
The best part about my helper hair? Not a soul (aside from my husband and one dear friend I've told) knows I have help in the hair department -- my toppers are that realistic.
How long have you been wearing wigs or hairpieces?
I've been wearing hair full-time for over three years, since my second son was born. It sounds cliché, but deciding to wear hair was the best decision I've ever made.
What advice would you give to a new wig/hairpiece wearer?
For those just getting started, I recommend taking advantage of the miraculous phenomenon that is the internet. You can find information and videos on almost any hair you might be interested in, along with care tips & tricks and real-life stories about wearing hair.
Take your time, do your research, but also know when to take a break. Hair loss can be devastating, and sometimes you need to take a step back from the "hair world". Finding the absolute perfect solution can become an obsession. And once you do, there are always new styles, colors and constructions to try...so you might end up spending a bit more time and energy on your hair than you want to (just remember to feed the kids, OK?)
What do you love about our brand?
I love that Jon Renau is constantly debuting new, modern styles and colors that make hair-wearing FUN. My current Jon Renau color is 10H16, and it's available in a variety of toppers and wigs. I love that I can wear my straight topper one day, my wavy topper the next, and whip out a full wig on the weekend, all while wearing the same color.
The ability to mix up my hair style while maintaining the same color means I look no different from any other woman whose hair differs throughout the week. It makes my hair-wearing that much more realistic.
