What is Hair Replacement?

Posted by JR on Jun 24th 2020

Did you know there is another solution for hair loss besides wigs and clip-in toppers? Hair Replacement (HR) is available for men and women who want a long-lasting alternative without hair restoration surgery.

A bondable topper is adhered to the head by an alternative hair expert for a secure feel. Once applied, the topper can then be cut-in and styled to achieve a totally custom look!

The topper is adhered to the skin if the wearer has total hair loss, but it can also be safely applied to the wearer’s existing biological hair. The application method will vary depending on the person.

Bondable toppers stay on for weeks and allow you to enjoy your life without thinking about your hair. Unlike wigs or clip-in toppers, you can sleep, shower, swim, and exercise in a bondable topper. There are no limitations!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the first step?

The first step is to schedule a consultation with a hair replacement center. The technician will examine your area of hair loss and take your type of hair loss and lifestyle into consideration before making a recommendation.

What type of adhesive is used? Will it pose a risk for those with sensitive skin?

Hair Replacement technicians use a variety of adhesives. Which one they use will depend on the type of application, the base materials of the chosen topper, and the wearer’s lifestyle and body chemistry.

How long does the application take?

This will depend on the type of application, which piece is being used, and whether they are also performing any other services during the appointment.

How often will the bondable topper need to be re-applied?

You will need to return to the HR center every 4 to 6 weeks for re-application.

What is the removal / re-application process like? Will it hurt?

No, it does not hurt! The technician will gently remove your topper and clean your scalp, before re-applying. The time and process will depend on the individual client and the method of application.

Something to keep in mind: it is recommended to purchase two bondable toppers at a time. Your technician can prep the second topper before your re-application appointment. This means you will not have to wait for the removed piece to be cleaned and your appointment will be much faster.

What is the care and maintenance like?

You will need to be careful about which styling tools you use, as well as how you wash and dry your piece. Since you are not able to take the topper off, you’ll need to be mindful to dry the piece completely after washing. Your hair replacement technician will review at-home care with you during your appointment, as well as provide resources.

Be sure to go to each of your re-application appointments in the recommended timeframe so that your technician is able to examine and care for your scalp.

How long will the bondable topper last?

Your topper will need to be replaced after 9 months to a year, depending on your lifestyle and level of care.
