EA Spotlight – Lorena

Sep 16th 2022

Whether you have extremely fine hair, progressive hair loss, or hair loss and regrowth—each journey is unique, but the challenges and emotions of hair loss are felt by many. Every month, we are spotlighting each of our beautiful Education Ambassadors in the hopes that their shared experiences empower those in the hair loss community.

First, we introduced you to Jo, who shared her message about having fun with wigs, despite the heartbreak of hair loss. Next, you met Kim, who’s passionate about sharing her hair loss solutions and embracing change. Then you got to know Amber, who reminds us to give ourselves grace, and to continually learn, try, and explore.

Now, let’s meet Lorena, who encourages those in the hair loss community to reach out to fellow 'hair loss sisters' when needing a little support.

Tell us a bit about yourself…

I was born and raised in Miami, Florida. I'm married with two boys. I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor but currently taking some time off to spend more time with my kids and share my passion for alternative hair and the wonders it has done for my self-esteem.

How long have you been wearing wigs or hairpieces?

I started wearing hair the summer of 2020. Starting to wear hair in the midst of the pandemic was a lifesaver, as it allowed me a lot of time and grace, since we were not going out much or seeing very many people at the start of my journey.

When you started your hair loss journey, what do you wish you knew?

I wish I would have known how many women there were out there currently struggling with the same. For so long, I felt I was the only one who was suffering from thin hair and hair loss because no one around me seemed to have these concerns. What is the best part about being an Education Ambassador?

I love being able to see products for myself, touch them, feel them, play around with them. I think it's such a fantastic opportunity to be able to share something I'm so passionate about. It's great being able to learn from leaders who have so much experience and knowledge about this industry.

What’s one thing you’ve learned about yourself while being an Education Ambassador?

I have learned how good it feels to get out of your comfort zone. I have tried several cuts and styles that I would have never imagined could work for me. Surprisingly, with some tweaks I've been able to have fun playing with blonde hair and pixie cuts.

What advice would you give to a new alternative hair wearer?

Take your time with your hair wearing journey. It can be such a rollercoaster. There are good, bad and 'blah' days. It takes time to feel confident and learn how to customize your pieces to help them feel like YOU.

Which Jon Renau style is your favorite?

My all-time favorite so far is Selena from the SmartLace Collection The color, cut and edgy look definitely makes me feel like the most sophisticated boss lady!
